Empowering Women: Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges

The world is gradually moving towards gender equality. However, the entrepreneurial landscape remains a domain where women are still underrepresented. Despite some progress, challenges persist, ranging from accessing capital to connecting with support networks. According to the Female Founders Monitor (2022), an overwhelming 80% of startup founders in Germany are men, underscoring the need for initiatives to support and amplify diverse voices in entrepreneurship.

“The world needs the ideas, the energy, and the passion of women entrepreneurs.”
Sheryl Sandberg, Founder of Lean In

Although the statistics may appear daunting, there is reason for optimism. The increasing number of women-owned businesses, particularly in micro-enterprises, reflects a growing trend of female entrepreneurship. Currently, 37% of founding teams in Germany include at least one woman (FFM). Nevertheless, the journey for women in startups is still fraught with obstacles, including limited access to funding and underrepresentation in technical fields, as well as balancing household responsibilities with partners. There remains a significant gap in female founders in engineering (12%) and computer science (5.5%) (FFM). One of the primary motivations for women founding startups in Germany is the desire to make a meaningful difference in the world (GEM), underscoring the potential for impactful change in the startup space.

“Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it and make it the life you want to live.”
Mae Jemison, First African American Woman Astronaut
“The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you’re very courageous: be strong, be extremely kind, and above all be humble.”
Serena Williams
